This project inquires about the development of a new design for additive manufacturing (DFAM) techniques using multi-material 3D printing. Visceral is a project that considered the development of both hardware (a multi-material 3d printing machine) and software (a property representation algorithm) to distribute material into a single optimized 3D printing path. In this way, it is possible to map performance data in 3D through a single marching path that walks over the shoe surface.

This project was developed for the computational design group of New Balance Athletics during th e workshop ‘shoe as a field’, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2019
